Exsis For Sale (2)

Please use the above thread that Barry had set up for this purpose- it makes it consistent and easier for historical reference by keeping it in one place/thread

Pleased to see so much interest in the advert though.

Barry is far too polite to point this out

Just hope that some one comes forward, especially for more recent owners benefit and perhaps to protect the value of their recent investment. It must be very helpful and confidence boosting for prospective buyers.

Perhaps many older owners like myself are not really confident with computer tech/phones etc – at our age it take a very special person …..like you Barry, who not only have mastered those challenges (with the help of Stephen), but have the exceptional willingness and dedication to help others – a remakable effort!

Just look back and see the benefit that has been derived.

Thanks for making those that were not aware that there is a cost factor to running this site.

Going forward it really does make sense for us owners to make a contribution – I am willing to pay more than my fair share to help keep this site afloat (it will have to be cheque as we don’t do electronic banking -ha ha, I said that I was in the dark ages).

If you still keep this site going Barry – I am going to pay you some money this time even if I have to come down and stuff it in your hand – after the lockdown, of course)

Love to be able to help/advise Bill, but as you have found out this is a new one for us on this Forum.

I expect that you have trawled all the usual spares sites and not found specifically what you searched for – I just had a try. Think you found a good deal for a door.

Sites that come to mind are Leisureshop Direct/Jacksons/Johns Cross/ Caravan accessories …….

Other option is Seals Direct but not specific to fridges. I did come across a commercial site that stocked many types of profile and even made seals to order, but didn’t list Thetford ( fridgesealsdirect.co.uk)

Is the seal any different to normal domestic???? but I notice that they are quite pricey.

A further option is to ask on a larger more general motorhome forum such as outandaboutlive.

If you are not already joined to that then let me know and I can ask for you, but didn’t want to ask before checking with you.

At least its only a niggly problem, Bill

Hope the info is useful for you Marley.

Regarding the colour Red……if you look back to 2nd October 2019, you will see that I responded to your question about red vans after a prompt from Barry and a quip from Barry about memory- what memory. Our grey hairs don’t come alone.

Which prompts my grey cells about the other red owner I was harping on about – think it was either a Ken or maybe Nick & Joc???

anyway, I bet half a dozen would probably cover it

Fly screen held open and you can see the black outer magnets, which were too far apart at 170mm between and left little gaps. The white inside magnets from the white inner blind can be seen filling the gap as they were offset to hold it all together nicely

Photo from the inside showing the ‘white side’

It is fitted across the top with one long length of Velcro attaching to a fixed piece which stays in place under the shelf. We used 5 separate strips down each side to keep tight to the wall of the van and taught to ensure the magnets easily align with each other , click click click. There are weights in the bottom to hang properly and seal against the floor.

In fairness to all other solutions that folks have found over the years, please remember that this works for us and is not necessarily better than other options – but as so far this is the only reply, it’s something to start with.

Unfortunately, I think that we can only post one photo at a time so you will have to work through each one. It folds up very compactly and can be scrunched up much smaller than this as shown in the kit bag that Gill made from excess fabric. We roll it up to avoid any creases.

There must be a 1001 options for fly screens, but having got fed up with the overlapping ones that are a buggers muddle to get through and others that flap in the breeze and let the blighters in anyway – we found a solution that still works for us.

Before replying I checked out on Toms wonderful ‘Little Exsis Book’ and found reference to my post of a few years ago – it can be found under Fly Screens section 64 on page 597/996, along with other comments on this subject.

I have just fitted it up in the van (quick as a flash) as it is held by a Velcro strip along the top and we have added 5 little strips down each side to keep it taught and aid the coming together of the magnets, click click click. just push to open and walk through and give each side a quick flap and it just comes together. We did buy the second screen because the magnets were 170mm apart and were a bit gappy. The white one stitched inside is sufficent to prevent this and makes the whole net hang better anyway – and they don’t come through. I will post some photos that I have just taken, after I have uploaded them

I have also just checked to see if this ‘disposable’ item is still available……and would you believe it, it is!

Look up JML Snap Screens magnetised Mesh Door Curtain, I also found it in Argos still at £10.

Here is what I copied from p.597.

Its a two piece net held together at the centre by magnets and by self adhesive
Velcro at the sides. It only cost £10 at Wilko – but at the first trial fitting we
thought the gaps between the magnets was too big allowing gaping – so we bought
another (cheap enough at £10). Gill joined them together with black outer & white
inner offsetting the magnet positions to decrease the gaps and prevent gaping.
There is a fair bit of sewing – as the original nets are too long & too wide & and a
weight has to be added to bottom. Gill is brilliant dressmaker & machinists…..
perhaps we need a ‘Sewing Bee’ at the Exsistravaganza.
It functioned really well and was a joy to use -‘just push through at the centre and
it just clasps back together with the magnets at the centre with very little faffing
around with the net. Perhaps the double layer also acts as a breeze barrier also.
We only really saw midges one night whilst wild camped by a river – it worked
well.

Hello from one Fred to another.

There have been several threads and enquiries about rustproofing over recent years – likely some will also be in the excellent ‘Little Exsis Book’ thanks to Tom.

A year or so ago Chris used ‘Rustbusters’ at Lincoln, before his big year out trip, think Maldwyn may have used them a few years ago. Recently Barry pointed Katy to a Rustbusters in Poole…. Don’t know if they are a franchised brand. Recently Dougie ( new member) posted that he had a great job done by South West Landrovers in Westbury, Wiltshire.

I think that these specialist centre mean that you will have to travel and the vans usually have to be left at the workshop anyway, especially if there is remedial welding to do – you can’t sleep inside for a few days anyway.

Read about a high mileage one with rust ( might have been blue?) from Bolton at a bargain price on ‘motorhome fun’ recently – is that yours?

Hope you find a good solution and please update us all, because it looks like some of these old Fiats need a bit of rust treatment now and your experience may help someone else, especially if it’s another recent owner.

Regards to all us lock downers- especially us many ‘older & vulnerable’

Fred

Exsis for sale in Ledbury – just saw the link on ‘outandaboutlive’ website

Its a 2005 White SK 2.8 One for sale here: https://tinyurl.com/ydynd5mj Ledbury. Looks good on paper (but then it is being advertised for sale! ), and a fair price.

The advert gives links to our forum, so it looks like someone who knows about us but never posted

Looks like another ‘older’ couple giving up.

Be quick if you are looking and good luck

Fred

Hope this helps

Another great innovative project by you Claydon, I’m not surprised that Amanda wants one too.

A great shot too of that other amazing project of yours – the removable steering wheel- that was quite a brave task that also required a lot of research. Hope you found a great secret hiding place for it – but don’t tell!

Hello Keith pleased to see that yourself and Zarita are both well. Take care as you are even more ‘senior’ than me!

Thanks for the great tip about marking the tyres as its going to be a long lay off.

Think that we will take the van for a little run soon, as you know there are some great hills here on our doorstep in Bath to warm the engine up thoroughly. As usual good tips from Barry, I have also read that it is not a good idea to run the engine whilst stationary as it will not get up to temperature and clear exhaust gases.

I close my sink plugs and open the drain valves ( fresh and waste tanks drained) and boiler drain open.

The engine battery should ‘trickle’ charge whilst on EHU……..I took advantage of the recent full sunshine to charge mine for free from the solar panels on my house roof, those such as Barry with solar on the van roof will not have problems at this time of year.

We reflect on our little daffodils ‘wild camp’ trip immediately before the lockdown.

We walk most days ( wearing Gills handmade masks, gloves and anti viral soaked cloths for wiping down after touching the ‘ 6 kissing gates’ down through the woods to Tucking Mill and have watched the wild flowers come and go ( primroses and now bluebells) and forage the wild garlic leaves for Gill to make wonderful home made soup. The flowers are out now which looks a lovely site interspersed with the bluebells… luckily there are still young fresh leaves underneath at the moment- guess we will be picking the flowers next to eat with the lettuce from the garden.

Keep safe and well everyone .

Fred & Gill
