I recently became aware that my wipers had become slow and a bit laboured. Having read the threads about self destructing wipers, Decided to investigate under the bonnet.

When the wipers were switched on, there was some flexing and movement of the motor.

A spray of  Lidl GP oil followed by a generous squirt of lithium grease on all of the linkages and pivots cured the problem. Hopefully I have nipped it in the bud and won’t have to do any reconstructive surgery.

Because the mechanism is not obviously visible, it probably doesn’t get the attention it needs……until it goes wrong.  Mine obviously didn’t!

It’s now on the list with hinges, locks, rubber seals and the roof window mechanism.

Like Chris, we use a n electric fan heater when on sites. We also carry a small oil-filled radiator (£20 from Argos or B&Q) which keeps the chill off overnight without the noise of a fan.

We’ve been on some very cold ski trips, but always been toastie in the van.

A good insulating screen and cab window cover can make a huge difference!

          Hi all

We had ours fitted by a firm in Ringwood , Hampshire, who’s name escapes me without rooting out the receipt.

The contents gauge is similar to Chris’ picture in this thread, and is connected to a float in the tank.

I ended up with a smaller tank than I planned due to available space within the chassis members, but it’s been adequate .  It was nearly twice the price of a Gaslow , but I was prepared to pay for the space.

Thanks Barry, the Fiat forum is very interesting. I haven’t found a cure yet but having reached p22 of 107 could be developing Ducato hypochondria.

My local Fiat dealership have quoted £123 for the ignition lock unit. A local Autolock firm says it’s easy,  I only need to replace the switch (about £20 on eBay) but I haven’t tried to remove the old one yet, in case it immobilises it completely. I’m  also not sure whether it might just be safer to change the whole thing,  I think either way may also mean the keys being recoded.

              Hi Pete

I’ve never owned one but I do know that as Barry says, they produce a lot of moisture. They would also use up the Oxygen in the van and give off CO2 which is not poisonous but is an asphyxiant so you would need ventilation

You can get ones for indoor use which have a low Oxygen sensor, but should not be used whilst sleeping.

But maybe you already know that.

                Hi Barry

I had used the mylpg website, and Union Mills was one of the three garages that were listed on the island, none of which did lpg. The other two were Kirk Michael and Ramsey.  An example of it not being 100% reliable. It’s a bit baffling why people  would submit false entries on the site.

Fortunately I wasn’t desperate, and was just researching for future reference.  That was at TT2018, so things may have changed (?)

I have one garage nearby who does lpg, and know of a few others on routes to some of our favourite destinations.

Because of the way it was installed, I still have the option to connect a cylinder in the gas locker if it becomes necessary; but I do like the convenience of a switch and contents gauge in the van and not having to lift cylinders in and out 🙂

Hi all.  We used to carry a 13kg propane which never ran out on us, but had an under slung refillable tank fitted.   Like Chris says, we’ll never recoup the cost.  It was done to give us extra room in the rear locker for a generator to use on skiing trips.

I now find myself  trying to memorise locations of garages with LPG on our trips.  I’ve not had much joy with the LPGfinder websites.  I know from experience there a none to be had on the Isle of Man.

                      Evening all

Thanks for the post tom & carol. Ours has cracks around the interior trim and a crack in the exterior panel; but as there’s no water ingress  I’ve kept putting it off.

This might be too late, but

For the putty, Toolstation do some Everbuild  (Puraflex?) glazing mastic which is quite cheap. I’ve used it on vehicle windows . it semi sets,  so would enable removal if necessary in the future. Sikaflex is very good, but might be more permanent.

                        evening all

I use Rain x  on all our vehicles. I was given a bottle by someone who stayed at our farm after doing the Peking to Paris in a 1930’s  American Ford. He also gave me some anti fog for the inside which is also worthwhile. I don’t know what it’s called ; he picked it up in Russia!

                          Hello all.

I have had a similar leak in the same location, not in the Exsis but in another vehicle. That was the clutch master cylinder, which got replaced.

Although it should really be another thread, My speedo reads on the optimistic side. I checked it against the satnav.  I have found that on our smart motorways a speedo 57 equates to actual 50. I Tend to use the tomtom to be on the safe side.

I thought it was just mine!

                            Hello Pete

I’ve just rooted out the instructions for the electrobloc.

To charge the batteries the bloc must be switched on (“Batterie Ein/Aus”, on the unit itself) as the electrobloc is the battery charger.

The isolator switch near the door can be “off”. This allows charging but cuts power to services.

The advice I was given by Atlantic MHs was to charge periodically, but not leave it on constantly.

                            I hope this helps

Had mine changed at my local garage in 2015 @ 31k miles. £99 for belt kit + £120 labour. They do all my vehicles and I’m always happy with their work and trust them  not to over charge or cut corners.

We have 2 Varta LDF 90’s. one habitation and one for the engine, both 2 1/2 years old.they have a 5yr warranty. I bought them on advice from (think he is called Alan) at Atlantic MH.

I prefer to be off grid , so I fitted an 80W solar panel in 2012, and that seems to be sufficient in the summer; but we are not big energy users, no TV .microwaves etc. and try to charge phones and laptops when the sun is up. or when we’re on the move.

I always hookup for a day before we go and as soon as we get back to keep the battery in good health.

These are the 3rd  pair of batteries the van has had from new , so they do seem to last about 5 yrs on average.

The longest stay without driving or hookup is 2 weeks at the TT and it  managed fine. but that’s max daylight hours and minimum drain and maybe 3l of LPG.
