I don’t know what you’ve typed there, Jean!
But your title shows that you’re looking for a recommendation from any Sussex-area based Exsis owners, for any good garages in the Brighton area or within up to 100 miles.
Can anyone help, please?

Katy and Alistair live next door to Brighton – think there is a PM facility now ….somewhere for Jean to try.
They may be able to recommend who they use.
There wont be an Exsis specialist or perhaps anyone necessarily who has serviced the Ducato element, so you probably need a commercial garage that doesn’t mind servicing motorhomes. Reluctant to try to name one over another because I am not from that area – think that I have read good reports of Johns Cross

Hi Katy and Alistair,
Sorry to bother you directly, but we are soon to be owners of this lovely Exsis, and we live in Brighton. Fred kindly mentioned that you are owners, and live somewhere in this area.
As we’re very new to this, we’re very keen to tap into any decent/good, mechanical, electrical and motorhome specialists, who we could use in the future, and wondered if you had found anyone? We don’t mind travelling some way, for a good contact. Currently we don’t know of anyone, apart from Fred’s suggestion of Johns Cross. We did contact them, some time ago, with a few enquiries, but they haven’t, as yet, got back to us.
We’d be very grateful for any ideas.
Many thanks,
Jean and Erwin

Many thanks Fred, very kind of you. I didn’t know what PM was, sorry, but Barry has explained … I’ll get there in the end …. maybe the PM goes directly as an email, so shows up more clearly.

Hi Jean and Erwin
We live in Seaford – do wave if you’re passing 😉
We’ve used a couple of garages, over the years. I’ll reply later this evening with names as it’s Alistair who takes them in.
There was a Fiat/Hymer in Poole called Essenjay who were good but expensive and quite far from us. We’ve also used a place out near Tenterden whose workshop was tall enough for the Exsis, and a campervan place in Eastbourne.
We have had a few things to repair, most of which Alistair has done himself – he was a diesel fitter – but it’s been serviced and cam belt changed elsewhere.
will let you know where later.

Thank you so much Katy … and Alistair, so kind of you!
We are real amateurs, but love this m’home, so compact, and hopefully less nerve wracking to drive!! We’re collecting it in a week or so, and look forward to our trips.Very grateful for any tips, and especially reliable garages.
Thanks again,
Jean and Erwin

Not seen anything, Katy.
Computers are SO annoying when they do that, aren’t they? I use my ‘phone for virtually all my internet work nowadays, and I’ve got into the habit of typing “big stuff” onto my notepad, then copying/pasting into where I want to send it.
Best wishes,
Barry

Katy’s reply appears! Its highlighted in red (dunno why?)
a couple of posts back.Work is being done on the site, in the background, so maybe that was what happened? Don’t forget, folks, dont try to log onto the site from 8pm this Friday until Monday am.
Many thanks, Katy, for that excellent, comprehensive reply.

Well, this is odd…
I can see Katy’s reply on my ‘phone but I can’t see it on my Kindle! Yes, really odd.So, because others might not be able to see it, I’ll post it again, on behalf of Katy & Alastair…
Katy & Alastair say…
This was the one I thought was near Tenterden – it’s a bit closer to Brighton in Rye. Al says they were good and they were recommended by someone else in the motor trade. http://www.ryevanservicing.co.ukThen we used http://www.ebcampersandcarz.co.uk in Eastbourne the year before last to have the timing belt done and Al said they were fine and it was a good price.
And a long while ago we used https://www.essanjay.co.uk in Poole, who were on the pricier side but very thorough. We had a habitation check, timing belt and full service.
There’s also https://www.caravantech-shop.co.uk in Hurst Green but we’ve not used them.
There is a garage on Montague Street (or is it Place) in Kemptown that I’ve seen camper vans and it looks quite tall but again, I don’t know anyone who has used them so you’d be advised to do some checking out.
The other thing Alistair says is useful to know is that we’ve bought tyres from Tyre Leader and they deliver to your house and then we’d take them to a local tyre fitter – rather than going to Kwik Fit. Always fit proper camping tyres.
We didn’t know anything about the exsis before we bought it, other than we loved it, and have just found our way through with help along the way. There’s always help to be found and this forum is a very good example of that. We’ve had the turbo air pipe come off on the way to Sweden and that made one heck of a scary sound but we managed to tape it on till we got to Denmark (from the boat in Harwich) and then fixed at the equivalent of Halfords. And then the starter motor gave out another time when we’d just arrived in Sweden. Ordered online from the UK, had delivered to where we were staying and fitted on a day which was pouring with rain and over run by mosquitos! There’s a lot of Fiat Ducatos out there so plenty of help.
The thing we wish we’d known was to drain down all the water from the van in the winter because we didn’t, one very cold year the water became ice, expanded and pushed a pipe off. Didn’t know until our first camp after the freeze…. that was wet and tiresome.
The Little Book of Exsis, and the search function in the forum means we are all well equipped to sort pretty much anything, even if we don’t know it yet.
Enjoy your van, it is the best van ever! We daydream about selling up and going off to live in it happily ever after!

PS Katy, I’ve tried a few times to send you a message via the message box, not only to thank you, but to say a bit about us, and give you my email address, but for some reason it seems unwilling to send, not sure why … me probably !!
On the first one it said 5o characters, and on the next 5000! Ah well, I tried ….
Thanks again,
Jean
